How Hot is the hotspot business ?

    Combien d'articles parus sur le sujet. Les hotspots allaient révolutionner le monde des travailleurs nomades et de nombreux commerce ont considéré cela comme la poule aux oeufs d'or.

La réalité économique est à mon avis différente. Comment en effet faire avaler une facture de 10 ou 20 euros pour quelques minutes de connexions alors que ce tarif approche un tarif mensuel de connexion haut débit à domicile ?

Un point d'accès à l'Internet quelque soit la solution technique choisi est à PEU PRES AUSSI INDISPENSABLE ET REMUNERATEUR QUE LA CARAFE D'EAU dans un restaurant. Indispensable surement profitable surement pas.

Quand pour un commerçant, l'installation d'un point d'accès ne représente que quelques centaines d'euros, la guerre des prix va vite ramener le tarif de ce service à une somme très symbolique...

I have read some much article about this.Hotspots were going to revolutionnize (?) the way mobile people were going to work.
Many shops (restaurants, hotels mostly) did thought this was going to bring a lot of money.

The economics, in my opinion are differents. How to justify a 10 or 20 euros charge for minutes or up to few hours of connection to the internet when a whole month cost roughly the same to the merchant ??

A hotspot is certainly getting indispensable to many restaurants, it is getting as much indispensable as a jug of water (wich is free in France) and as much rewarding...
Indispensable Yes, profitable No

The ADSL subscription is so cheap for the restaurant that the price war is quickly bringing the selling price of this service to a symbolic price...
